How would you best describe this injury?
Impacted distal radial fracture with minor dorsal angulation. No articular involvement. - Try to avoid eponymous terms in reports (this could be considered a Colles' fracture) - just say what you see!
Why is potential articular involvement important to assess?
Disrupting the joint can lead to an increased risk of early osteoarthritis, and pushes towards an operative rather than conservative treatment. This can be termed a Barton fracture - but again avoid eponyms!
Impacted distal radial fracture.
Minor dorsal angulation.
No other bone or joint injury.
