Calcific tendinosis of the rectus femoris

Discussion:

Calcific tendinosis is a common pathology but typically affects the rotator cuff of the shoulder, most frequently involving the supra and infraspinatus tendons. Rarely, other sites may be involved as is seen in this case involving the rectus femoris origin. This should not be mistaken for an avulsion injury or heterotopic ossification, given that it is calcific rather than ossific.
