Small bowel angioedema (ACE-inhibitor related)

Discussion:

This patient reported a gradual onset of symptoms after starting an ACE-inhibitor for hypertension 3 days earlier. Symptoms improved rapidly after cessation of the medication without any additional therapy, supporting the diagnosis. This pattern of enhancement is fairly typical for angioedema related to ACE-inhibitor, and is an important diagnosis to keep in mind as it only requires conservative therapy and cessation of the inciting medication rather than more aggressive GI or surgical workup.
