Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease

Discussion:

Typical appearance of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) with diffuse involvement of the kidneys and liver.

Except for the kidneys, the liver is the most common organ that shows cysts in ADPKD and is involved in about 75% of patients by age 60. The other organs that may involved include seminal vesicles, prostate, pancreas, spleen and ovaries.

Additionally, ADPKD may associated with other conditions, such as cerebral berry aneurysms, multiple biliary hamartomas, colonic diverticulosis and mitral valve prolapse.
