Hepatoblastoma

Discussion:

An ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy was performed for the liver mass. Histopathology evaluation revealed:

Sections of the received specimen show focal neoplastic proliferation of hyperchromatic spindle cells with fibrotic bundles and polygonal cells with small nucleoli among normal appearing hepatocytes. According to IHC profile, all tumoral cells are immunoreactive for CK18 and HepPar-1. The cells are negative for CK8, NSE, S100 and EMA.

DX: Hepatoblastoma

Hepatoblastoma is the most common primary malignant liver tumor in children. On CT images it is usually seen as a well defined heterogeneous mass with areas of necrosis and hemorrhage. Dense calcifications may be seen in approximately 40% of cases 1.
