Foreign body in knee - catfish spine

Discussion:

Catfish spine sting wounds are somewhat rare.

Most members of the catfish order (Siluriformes) possess spines on their dorsal and pectoral fins for defense.

In the present case, there were no apparent injuries to noble structures such as nerves, vessels, tendons, or ligaments. The foreign body was surgically removed.

As many members of the catfish order are also venomous, the patient was referred to the intoxication center for evaluation.
