Most cases of dacryocystitis can be diagnosed clinically and are treated with antibiotics. Indications for imaging include exclusion of secondary orbital cellulitis or orbital abscess; both conditions being uncommon due to the orbital septum acting as a barrier preventing postseptal spread of infection ¹.
