Transposition of inferior vena cava (also known as left-sided IVC) refers to a variant course of the inferior vena cava. It is considered the most common anomaly of the IVC. This diagnosis is important for preoperative planning of nephrectomy and renal transplantation, vascular procedures such as portosystemic shunts, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and the placement of an IVC filter.
