Vagus nerve schwannoma

Discussion:

The most frequent cervical mass in relation to the carotid vessels is the carotid body paraganglioma, which is characterized by avid contrast enhancement. The mass grows and splays (separates) the internal and external carotid arteries. The case presented is posterior to the cervical vessels and displays discrete contrast enhancement. Findings in this case were consistent with Schwannoma of the vagus nerve.
