Madelung disease is a benign self limited condition with no definite known etiology, however it is suspected to be associated with high alcohol intake. Typically it consists of non encapsulated extensive subcutaneous fatty deposition  at the neck region, infiltrating deeply to the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles and salivary glands.
