Rich focus is the caseating subpial or subependymal foci of tuberculous infection in the cortex of the brain 2. It becomes important when a tuberculous focus discharges its contents into the subarachnoid space or into the ventricular system resulting in tuberculous meningitis. It is most frequently associated with miliary tuberculosis 1.
History and etymology
It is named after American pathologist Arnold Rice Rich (1893-1968).
