Anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament injury

Presentation

One month before the presentation, the patient missed a stair-step resulting in the left ankle injury. Complaining of left ankle pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

There is no effusion in the anterior recess of the ankle joint. The symptomatic left anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament shows thickening with heterogeneous hypoechogenicity. However, the ligament shows continuity. The anterior talofibular ligament and the calcaneofibular ligament are intact with a normal echopattern.

Asymptomatic side anterior tibiofibular ligament was examined for a comparison and its shows normal echopattern.

Case Discussion

The case shows the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament sprain. An anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament is part of distal tibiofibular syndesmosis.
