De Quervain tenosynovitis

Presentation

Wrist pain in the radial side for six months.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
mri

MRI reveals thickening with abnormal intrasubstance increased fluid signal of the first dorsal compartment tendons of the wrist (abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis). There is increased fluid within the tendon sheath.  

Small synovial cysts are seen at the volar aspect of the wrist and medial to common flexor tendons at the level of wrist proximal and distal row bones.

Intraosseous degenerative cysts up to 2 mm are seen within the carpal bones proximal and distal rows.

Case Discussion

This middle-aged female presents with the non-traumatic onset of pain on the radial aspect of the wrist for the last two months. Clinical presentation and imaging findings are suggestive for De Quervain tenosynovitis.
