Presentation

Instability following twisting injury

Patient Data

Age: 18 years
Gender: Male
mri

Bony irregularity is seen along superolateral aspect of patella with intact overlying articular cartilage.

Complete anterior cruciate ligament tear is seen with vertical longitudinal tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus.

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with dorsal defect of patella. It is a developmental variant, an incidental finding and should not be mistaken for chondromalacia or osteochondral lesion specially in a post-traumatic setting as in the above case.
