Presentation
Recently diagnosed with plasmablastic lymphoma, the patient requires intrathecal methotrexate as therapy for central nervous system prophylaxis.
Patient Data
Frontal craniostomy with catheter insertion was performed in the left lateral ventricle frontal horn. The catheter reservoir is lodged in the subcutaneous cellular tissue. Additionally, right frontal pneumoencephalus was observed, likely resulting from a recent surgical procedure.
Case Discussion
The Ommaya reservoir is an intraventricular access device developed for the delivery of medications directly into the cerebrospinal fluid, including chemotherapeutic drugs, antibiotics, opioids, among others.
Immediately post-surgery, the Ommaya reservoir can lead to various complications, such as bleeding, infection, ventricular perforation, or leukoencephalopathy secondary to certain drugs.
