Presentation

Lump in lumbar left paracentral region.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
mri

Large well-defined fat-signal lesion (high signal on T1WI and T2WI with loss of signal in fat suppressed STIR sequence) is noted in the left paraspinal location inside the erector spinae muscles. The lesion has extension to the left side prespinal muscles as well as through the left D12/L1 neural foramina into the spinal canal impressing the thecal sac.

Case Discussion

Lipoma is a the most common benign soft tissue tumor that can occur anywhere in the body. MRI characteristics are typical: high signal on T1 and T2 weighted imaging of loss of signal after fat suppression.
