Proximal femoral osteosarcoma

Presentation

Right hip pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

At the less trochanter is a solitary lytic lesion with a narrow zone of transition on the frontal but less so on lateral measuring 3.3cm (CC) x 2cm (trans). There is some periosteal reaction noted as well. "Fluffy" new bone formation is noted projecting over the anterior aspect of this lytic focus.

Right hip megaprosthesis. No evidence of periprosthetic complication. Small area of heterotopic ossification at the medial aspect of the remaining superior femoral shaft. 

Case Discussion

Osteosarcomas are most common in the femur. The implantation of a megaprosthesis can result in limb-sparing surgery, which is important for all patients.
