Right lung pneumonia on ultrasound

Presentation

5 year old presenting with cough, fever and breathlessness

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Hepatization of the right lung adjacent to the superior margin of the diaphragm liver and pleural surface. Multiple hyperechoic foci with ring down artifact (gas) and scanty pleural effusion also seen.

Case Discussion

This case highlight the role of ultrasonography in evaluating the chest in children, especially in the emergency setting. The boy eventually had a chest radiograph (not shown) that confirmed the diagnosis of right lobar pneumonia. He was managed as inpatient and went on to have full recovery.
