A large encapsulated mass of mixed fat and blood density is seen at the site of the left kidney with marked haziness and stranding of the perinephric fat. A massive retroperitoneal hematoma is seen in the left lumbar region, tracking down to the pelvis.
Case Discussion
Wunderlich syndrome occurs as a result of spontaneous bleeding into the perinephric spaces. One of the most common underlying causes is ruptured angiomyolipoma. Vascular entities of renal cell carcinoma may also be the underlying etiology.
