Gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST)

Discussion:

Fairly typical appearance of a gastric GIST, characterized by a predominantly exophytic submucosal mass with a few calcifications. Pathologic diagnosis was confirmed at the time of surgery. 

Pathology: 

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: Sections show fragments of tumor composed of spindle cells arranged in fascicles. No mitotic figures seen. Immunohistochemistry positive for CD117 and CD3.
