Brain metastasis from lung cancer

Presentation

Headaches in a patient treated for lung cancer on follow-up.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

Small lobulated intra-axial lesion of the posterior cranial fossa centered on the right cerebellar tonsil. It elicits a low signal on T1, a slightly high signal on T2 and FLAIR with tand ring enhancement of the solid non-necrotic component on the postcontrast sequences. No calcification or hemorrhagic component was seen on GE. Mild surrounding vasogenic edema with a mass effect on the 4th ventricle.

Cerebral volume loss with small vessel ischemic change.

Case Discussion

The MRI features of an enhancing intra-axial lesion of the posterior cranial fossa in a patient treated for lung cancer is most consistent with brain metastasis.
